I’m Brian Bingham, a professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, and a co-founder of Honu Robotics. My research is on marine robotics — autonomous surface and underwater vehicles, the simulation environments they’re tested in, and the controls and navigation that hold them together. I did my PhD at MIT (mechanical engineering, 2003).

This site is a place for short essays and technical notes — working thoughts shared with colleagues earlier than a paper would allow, revised over time as my thinking does. Substantive pieces are archived to Zenodo for DOIs and Google Scholar indexing. The audience is engineering academics, educators, and the occasional curious student.
